moderating Members and groups
Group moderators either created the group or were appointed by the person who created the group. The moderator monitors the discussion to make sure no members make inappropriate posts. The response to an inappropriate post can range from telling the offending person not to make those kinds of posts, to blocking that person’s access to the group.
As moderator one thing you do is choose discussion topics. Field Nation does not limit the choice of topics, but recommends keeping it professional.
1. Click to display your social groups.
2. Click the group link to open the group page.
3. Place the cursor into the “Enter a New Discussion Topic Here” field.
4. Enter your discussion topic.
5. Click to begin the discussion. A confirmation popup appears.
6. Click to confirm the discussion topic.
The topic is open for discussion.
Group members sometimes have difficulties within a discussion. These difficulties usually involve one or more members who are posting inappropriately. Make sure to have the facts before taking any action, but then you must act to preserve the integrity of your group.
If the member contacting you was offended by someone else’s post, you need to take action to resolve the issue.
1. Review the posts from all involved members to determine the cause and seriousness of the issue.
2. If the complaint is valid take appropriate corrective action with the offending poster.
NOTE:
Corrective action ranges from a polite reminder of the discussion rules to
blocking the poster from the discussion group.
3. After taking the appropriate corrective action, inform the plaintiff correction action was taken.
OR
2. If the complaint is not valid, make sure to inform the plaintiff of your decision. He or she must then decide whether to remain in the group and the discussion.
If a group member posts something offensive, the moderator has both the authority and the responsibility to take corrective action. In general, there are three possible actions to take:
·
Mildly inappropriate first time offense
Send a polite private message letting the offender know they made an offensive
post and requesting they do not make similar posts in the future.
·
More inappropriate messages
The response should be terse and direct. It should also inform the offender
that future offenses will result in the member being blocked.
·
Multiple or severe offenses
Block the offending member but make sure to tell them what you did and why you
did it.
